Establishedrecognised as a deposit by the joint Fennoscandian geological surveys in Special Paper 53
Reported for this deposit
Lithoen records Otanmäki as a deposit because the Geological Survey of Finland's Fennoscandian metallogeny volume, prepared jointly by the geological surveys of Norway, Sweden, Finland and northwest Russia, treats it as one — described as an area of several vanadium-rich magnetite-ilmenite deposits, with its ore body geometry, mineral ratio, vanadium content and gangue given. The recognition is the surveys' own.
- assertion basis: SOURCE_REPORTED
- definition basis: Treatment as a named deposit in a national geological survey volume.
- locality: The Otanmäki V-Ti-Fe area, central Finland.
- assumption: Recognition as a deposit is a geological judgement by a survey and is not a statement that the deposit is economic.

Establishedfour products from one ore: three concentrates and vanadium pentoxide
Reported for this deposit
The Geological Survey of Finland reports that the Otanmäki processing plant produced magnetite, ilmenite and pyrite concentrates and, from a separate vanadium plant, vanadium pentoxide; and that over the life of the mine and plant these amounted to 7.6 million tonnes of iron concentrate, 3.8 million tonnes of ilmenite concentrate, 0.2 million tonnes of pyrite concentrate and 55,545 tonnes of V2O5. The volume adds that for the economy of the mine V2O5 was the main product for most of the mine's life, from an element carried at 0.62 per cent inside the magnetite.
- assertion basis: SOURCE_REPORTED
- definition basis: Products and life-of-mine tonnages as printed in the volume, citing Illi and others 1985.
- temporal basis: Cumulative over the life of a mine that had closed by the 2012 publication. These are historical totals, not current output.
- locality: Otanmäki and Vuorokas, central Finland.
- assumption: Life-of-mine totals are not annual rates and not capacity. The volume gives no recovery for any of the four products.

Open question
Reported for this deposit
Lithoen holds no coordinate for Otanmäki. The Fennoscandian metallogeny volume locates it by naming a metallogenic area and by figures, which is not a coordinate; reading one off a published map figure would manufacture a precision the source does not carry.
- assertion basis: SOURCE_REPORTED
- definition basis: What the source provides by way of location: a named area and map figures.
- locality: The Otanmäki V-Ti-Fe area, central Finland.
- assumption: Absence of a coordinate here is a limit of this source and this corpus, not a statement that the position is unknown to anyone.

Establishedmagmatic magnetite-ilmenite ore in metamorphosed gabbro; oxides recrystallised into discrete grains
Reported for this deposit
The Geological Survey of Finland reports the Otanmäki ferrous-metal deposits as magmatic magnetite-ilmenite ores in deformed and metamorphosed gabbros of about 2060 million years, with magnetite and ilmenite as the main minerals in a ratio of about two to one, vanadium at 0.62 per cent within the magnetite, pyrite at 1 to 2 per cent of the ore, and a gangue of chlorite, hornblende and plagioclase. Recrystallisation left the two oxide minerals as discrete, separate grains.
- assertion basis: SOURCE_REPORTED
- definition basis: Mineralogy and mineral chemistry as printed in the volume, citing Pääkkönen 1956, Talvitie and Paarma 1980 and Illi and others 1985.
- locality: The Otanmäki V-Ti-Fe area, central Finland.
- assumption: A modal ratio and a mineral-chemical figure are not grades of the ore and not a resource statement.

Open question
Reported for this deposit
Lithoen holds no mineral-system interpretation for Otanmäki. The volume places it in a named metallogenic area with a described geological setting, but this corpus holds no mineral-system entity matching that setting, and coining one from a single case would create a class out of an instance.
- assertion basis: SOURCE_REPORTED
- definition basis: The absence of a matching mineral-system entity in this corpus, recorded rather than left silent.
- locality: The Otanmäki V-Ti-Fe area, central Finland.
- assumption: A statement about Lithoen's coverage, not about the state of knowledge.

Establishedrecrystallisation left ilmenite and magnetite as discrete separate grains, a stated processing advantage
Reported for this deposit
The Geological Survey of Finland attributes an advantage in processing the Otanmäki ore to its texture rather than to its grade: recrystallisation left ilmenite and magnetite as discrete, separate grains, which the volume calls a significant advantage in processing the ore when Otanmäki and Vuorokas were mined. Two oxide minerals that elsewhere are intergrown were here already apart before any separation began.
- assertion basis: SOURCE_REPORTED
- definition basis: A processing implication stated BY the survey, not inferred by Lithoen from a mineral name or a texture.
- locality: The Otanmäki V-Ti-Fe area, central Finland.
- temporal basis: Of the period when Otanmäki and Vuorokas were mined; the volume is of 2012 and the mine had closed.
- assumption: This says nothing about recovery, throughput or cost, none of which the volume gives, and nothing about how any other magnetite-ilmenite ore would behave.
