New Caledonia Ophiolite
An obducted ophiolite sheet in the southwest Pacific, named by the USGS laterite model among the accreted terranes and obducted ophiolites on which nickel-cobalt laterites have developed. Ophiolite is oceanic lithosphere emplaced onto a continental margin — crust that arrived rather than formed where it now sits.
