Germanium–indium acid leach solution

The solution produced by leaching germanium–indium dross in sulphuric or oxalic acid. Germanium reports to it at yields above 80 per cent in both acids; indium's behaviour differs sharply between them. It is a loaded liquor and nothing more: no germanium was separated from it, precipitated, purified or assayed as a product.

What Lithoen records

Each claim states how it is known and cites its evidence.

EstablishedGermanium: above 80 per cent in both acids; highest 85 per cent in sulphuric acid at 80 degrees Celsius, 3 hours, 10 per cent acid, solid to liquid 1:10. Indium: about 20 per cent in oxalic acid; in sulphuric acid 37 per cent at 40 degrees rising to about 82 per cent at 80 degrees over two hours. Laboratory scale.

Measured at this deposit

Germanium leached from the dross at yields above 80 per cent in both sulphuric and oxalic acid, reaching 85 per cent in sulphuric acid, while indium behaved quite differently between the two acids — about 20 per cent in oxalic, and rising with temperature to 80 per cent in sulphuric.

EstablishedDownstream of the leach solution: nothing performed. No product precipitated, separated, purified or assayed; no purity reported, because no product exists.

Reported for this deposit

No germanium or indium product was recovered from the leach solution. The study surveys precipitation, chloride distillation, solvent extraction and ion exchange as routes others have used, and performs none of them; its conclusions are about leachability alone.
