Establishedrecovered from zinc concentrates as an intermediate leach concentrate; contingent on the host zinc stream

Reported for this deposit

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that germanium reaches recovery inside zinc concentrates produced for their zinc, and that a zinc smelter at Clarksville, Tennessee recovered it as an intermediate leach concentrate for export from concentrates sent by a Tennessee mine — until that mine's operations were suspended, which the survey reports as still the case through 2024. Germanium recovery is contingent on a host stream that can stop for reasons that have nothing to do with germanium.

  • assertion basis: SOURCE_REPORTED
  • definition basis: What the survey reports about one named smelter and one named suspended mine.
  • temporal basis: As reported for 2024 in the January 2025 edition. The survey does not state the smelter's own current status.
  • assumption: This is not a statement that zinc concentrates generally contain germanium, nor that any other zinc operation could recover it. The survey names specific operations.
