What Lithoen records

Each claim states how it is known and cites its evidence.

EstablishedWeak in compression; hygroscopic, so must be protected from the environment.

Aramid fibres are generally weak in compression and absorb moisture — parts have been reported to take up as much as 8 per cent of their weight in water — so aramid parts must be protected from the environment; they are also difficult to drill and cut.

  • precision note: Eight per cent is the upper bound of moisture uptake the handbook attributes to service reports on some parts, not a property of the fibre.
