Material

Tabuaço scheelite skarn ore

The skarn material of the Tabuaço deposit, in which scheelite occurs as finely disseminated anhedral crystals — 5 to 300 micrometres in the Main Skarn and below 150 micrometres in the Lower Skarn — closely associated with vesuvianite, the principal calcium-bearing silicate of the assemblage, alongside feldspars and fluorite.

What Lithoen records

Each claim states how it is known and cites its evidence.

EstablishedFalcon Semi-Batch optimum, laboratory scale: scheelite recovery 71.6 per cent, mass yield about 15 per cent, WO3 enrichment above 4.5, desliming 98.8 per cent, WO3 loss to tailings about 30 per cent.

Centrifugal gravity separation of Tabuaço skarn ore ground to minus 150 micrometres produced a pre-concentrate carrying more than 70 per cent of the tungsten in about 15 per cent of the mass, at a WO3 enrichment above 4.5, with 98.8 per cent desliming efficiency and 78 per cent of the apatite and fluorite eliminated — at the cost of about 30 per cent of the tungsten reporting to the tailings.

Reported for this deposit

The Tabuaço skarn material carries its tungsten in scheelite that is finely disseminated rather than coarse: anhedral crystals of 5 to 300 micrometres in the Main Skarn and below 150 micrometres in the Lower Skarn, closely associated with vesuvianite, the assemblage's main calcium-bearing silicate. The scheelite is zoned in molybdenum, 0 to 0.12 per cent MoO3 averaging 0.029, with cores richer than rims.

  • assertion basis: SOURCE_REPORTED
  • definition basis: Grain sizes, mineral association and microprobe molybdenum measurements as reported in the study.
  • commodity role: Tungsten carried in scheelite; molybdenum present within the scheelite and not as a separate mineral.
  • locality: Tabuaço, Central Iberian Zone, northern Portugal.
  • assumption: Grain sizes are measurements on the samples studied. They are not a deposit-wide feed specification, and one textural study is not the whole orebody.
