Industrial application
Photovoltaic quartz crucible manufacture
The use of high-purity quartz sand as the raw material for crucibles in which crystalline silicon for photovoltaic cells is grown. The application is named here at material level rather than element level: silicon is not the input, a quartz sand meeting stated impurity limits is.

What Lithoen records
Each claim states how it is known and cites its evidence.
EstablishedPhotovoltaic requirements on high-purity quartz sand as reported: Fe below 5 ppm, total impurity content below 300 ppm; sodium, potassium and phosphorus migrate at high temperature and affect performance and lifespan; calcium and phosphorus affect high-temperature stability. Aluminium and iron named as the most pernicious impurities.
Reported for this deposit
Photovoltaic use constrains the quartz sand it is made from by individual impurity, with a physical reason: iron must be below 5 parts per million because it absorbs ultraviolet light and causes recombination of photogenerated carriers, and total impurities must stay below 300 parts per million.
