Material

Mozambican tantalite ore (Thuthuka Group supply)

Also known as ferrotantalite, tantalite-(Fe)

The tantalite ore analysed in a 2012 University of Pretoria dissertation, stated by that work to have been mined in Mozambique and supplied by Thuthuka Group Ltd of South Africa. The source names a supplier and a country of mining and names no mine, deposit or district, so this entity is the material as that one work received it and is not a deposit.

What Lithoen records

Each claim states how it is known and cites its evidence.

Establishedthe tantalite ore as received, which the source states was mined in Mozambique and supplied by Thuthuka Group Ltd, South Africa (X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, instrument model ARL9400 XP with UniQuant software, as Appendix A.2 states for the analysis of the tantalite): SiO2 0.37 %, TiO2 1.26 %, Al2O3 0.1 %, Fe2O3 15.09 %, MnO 1.4 %, ZrO2 0.12 %, SO3 0.02 %, Cl 0.01 %, ZnO 0.03 %, Co3O4 0.02 %, HfO2 0.11 %, Nb2O5 4.72 %, MoO3 0.02 %, SnO2 0.04 %, Ta2O5 75.89 %, OsO4 0.04 %

Measured at this deposit

The tantalite ore this dissertation worked on assays 75.89 per cent Ta2O5 against 4.72 per cent Nb2O5, with 15.09 per cent Fe2O3 — a tantalum-dominant, iron-rich ore. The analysis carries something no other measurement in this corpus does: the source names the instrument that made it, model ARL9400 XP, for this analysis specifically. It still carries no identifier for the material analysed and no date, and the sixteen rows sum to 99.24 per cent rather than to 100.
